5 Steps To Make Your Epoxy Floor Look New

5 Steps To Make Your Epoxy Floor Look New

Even though epoxy floors are difficult to maintain, taking a few precautions and steps will prolong its product life and keep them looking brand new. When you have an epoxy floor in the garage or in your sunroom, the care protocol remains the same, which is a combination of regular maintenance and deep cleaning.

The Five Things to Know To Make Your Epoxy Floor Look Great

Here are five steps you should take to make your epoxy floor look brand new:

  1. Clean minor spills immediately

Whether it is an oil leak or any other minor spills, use a tissue paper or a soft cloth to quickly clean it off. Don’t use any cleaner or water because it will only make the mess bigger.

  1. Mop the floor once a week

Use a blue commercial dust mop or soft bristle broom to mop the epoxy floor once a week. They will protect the floor from getting scratched and clean off the dust. You can find it at any local home improvement store. Mix a half cup of salt in one gallon of water and mop the floor with it.

  1. Deep clean once every three months

Vacuum once a month using the crevice tool to get in the nooks and corners of the room. If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner, use a soft bristle brush and get down on your knees to make sure that every particle of sawdust or dark patches are cleaned out. Other than that, reserve one specific day every three months to deep clean the floors. Move the tools, equipment, and vehicles out of the room, so you cover the entire surface.

  1. Place a mat at all entrances and exits

Place a walk-off mat at all entrance and exits to wipe water and snow off your shoes before entering inside. Keep longer mats during the monsoon and winter seasons to absorb moisture and dirt more effectively. You can place a mouse pad under your motorcycle kickstand to avoid the epoxy floor from getting damaged.

  1. Restrict using cleaners with acids

Avoid using cleaners that contain acids including vinegar and citrus cleaners as they leave a residue on the floor, which tarnishes its quality and shortens the product life. Don’t use soap-based cleaners as well since they make floors slippery when wet. You can choose between two biodegradable, non-toxic, and safe cleaners — ammonia and Simple Green. Mix a half cup of either cleaner in one gallon of hot water to clean your epoxy floor. Don’t make a concentrated mixture because that can cause the coating to come off.

Follow these steps and you will never have to worry about the floors ever again. Contact ArmorPoxy for further questions.

Help! I’ve used a concentration of simple green before I read this. Floor looks kind of dull now. It’s sort of lost its gloss it used to have. Is there a way I can restore its shine?? Thanks!

      Hi Miguel,

You might have to apply another topcoat to the floor if you are looking to restore the shine. Take a look at several different topcoats we offer.
